Foxtrot is a smooth, elegant, easy to learn dance, very popular at a wide variety of social events, including wedding receptions. It’s named after its originator, Harry Fox, who was a vaudeville comedian in the 1910s. He introduced a trot to a ragtime song in the 1913 Ziegfeld Follies that pushed other trots into the background. It became America’s most popular dance and remains so to this day as the standard of social dances.
Two types of ballroom foxtrot are distinguished: quickstep and slow foxtrot. The last one is one of the most beautiful dances of the ballroom dance program. It requires a lot of practice so that the couple can feel the balance in their moves.
Foxtrot dance steps
It’s one of the most beautiful ballroom dances characterized by long, continuous flowing movements. This is a combination of slow steps with two beats of music and quick steps with one beat of music. The timing of footwork is usually the following: slow-quick-quick or slow-slow-quick-quick. To dance foxtrot you should learn at least 4 or 5 figures.
